Highlights
This Pulse article by Tom Critchlow is a superb insight into how large businesses should think about SEO.
Balancing the technical side with a mindset aimed at producing the best customer experiences and being seen as a true authority in your field has long been one of the ways I've tried to think about SEO. And - as usual - Tom has put it in an eloquent manner I'm very jealous of.
Really worth a read if you are leading an #SEO team or working on how to get SEO taken seriously by a management team as more than tags & keyword research.
Putting things as customer-experience-first helps you position SEO as a hybrid discipline. One that needs to work with the development, product, marketing and PR teams.
This is key in-house, but also for agencies.
The future is less about 'done for you' SEO work and much more about consulting. Bringing the different departments together. Helping clients see how all the strands of the business affect SEO. Introducing processes and attitudes that put customer experience first but consider SEO principles.
One of the things I'm most looking forward to in 2020 is hosting the Oxford Digital Workers' Union with Aisha Kellaway.
We've got a series of events lined up for the year, & sponsorship from the lovely folks at Corriculo, but of course it wouldn't be an event to learn at without speakers.
We've been lucky enough to have some superb speakers join us over the past couple of years with talks from the likes of James Brockbank, Hannah B., @Patrick Langridge, Hana Bednarova, @Jonas Grünfeld and Bethany Joy (and plenty more I'll regret not mentioning as I remember them all). And we'd like you to join them!
If you've got a digital marketing topic you'd like to share ideas, tricks, tips, guides or research on, we'd love to hear from you. We want (10 - 20 minute) talks that help our community learn something new, find inspiration or expand their digital marketing horizons. We have a simple form at bit.ly/odwu-speaker-form where you can apply.
Our first event of the year is on January 22nd (https://lnkd.in/dPgDQhA) on the theme of getting traffic/attention in competitive fields or as a small business. We have the awesome Helen P. lined up to headline, so if you'd like to join her on our small-but-perfectly-formed stage, get in touch!
