Happy Pride Month, y'all! 🌈
Last week, in my capacity as the executive sponsor of United Vestas, our #LGBTQ+ employee resource group, I collaborated with United Vestas co-chair Dan Hotovec and Pride Committee chair Dylan Sladky on an announcement outlining the ways in which we're celebrating our queer colleagues this month and this year, and we had a moment of reflection on the value of queer voices writing that announcement - because who better to capture the excitement and authenticity of #PrideMonth than those who live and breathe it every day?
That we live and work in a world and a company in which that's possible is cause for celebration - and that we have community members that don't is cause for action. Pride Month is a party, yes, but it's also a time to recognize the ongoing struggle for LGTBQ+ rights and the importance of activism and allyship in creating a more #inclusive world: solidarity and liberation for all, this month and every month.
If you're interested in joining Vestas at a #Pride celebration, we'll have a presence in three (!) cities' celebrations this year:
Denver, CO on Sunday, June 23 Portland, OR on Sunday, July 21 Austin, TX on Saturday, August 10

Really honored to join Elizabeth N. Laine and Camille J. M. last week at American Clean Power Association (ACP) #OMS2024 to discuss recruiting and retaining diverse talent as a requirement for industry resilience.
My remarks were structured around one simple truth: effective leadership requires you to act like diversity is an inherent value. I shared the following three principles that support the integration of #DEIB activities into your leadership:
-
Encourage employees to bring their full selves to work: promote a culture where employees feel valued for their unique backgrounds and perspectives; enshrine safety.
-
Lead by example: as leaders, our actions speak volumes. We cast large shadows. Bring YOUR full self to work. Commit to personal education on DEIB topics and openly discuss your learning journey. Invite others into it. Demonstrate inclusivity in your language, behavior, and decision-making processes, and when you misstep - which we all do - own up to it. Set a powerful precedent for your team.
-
Foster open dialogues and allow for experimentation: create spaces where team members feel safe to express their thoughts, share their experiences, and voice concerns. Listening is a powerful tool for change.
