Things I learned about job searching as a new grad in this terrible market (and finally landing) :)
And it's not basic advice. Maybe even controversial to some.

-
It's unreasonable to customize your resume to every application. Instead, have resumes for specialized industries.
-
All that ATS stuff...it scores the same. Whatever you do, just don't use Figma. And no, it doesn't have to be Teal or Google Docs.
-
No, you don't have to make your portfolio the most creative and innovative thing ever. Visuals are important but don't feel obligated to go reinventing navigation and scrolling.
-
Make your portfolio/branding specific to your UX skillset. Be self aware even with little industry experience.
-
Use AI.
-
Change your resume name/location to avoid getting black listed. For example, some companies won't pay for relocation, but if you're willing to, go ahead.
-
Get advice from a UX writer for your portfolio and resume.
-
Use ADPList as a way to network with specific designers in your desired industry/company (not just for design feedback).
-
Present your work to companies as a way of networking, critique, and feedback for their interview process (if you can). For example, I presented my TikTok case study to a TikTok designer.
-
Do some sleuthing about your interviewers so that you can get their vibe and be prepared to match it. I found an interviewer's wedding Pinterest board once. I knew their exact persona 😂

This is just a summary.
I posted the whole document, with disclaimers, exceptions, details in the comments.
If you saw my latest post, I finally landed a job after 11 months of job searching. I started knowing absolutely nothing, just sending my outdated resume into the void. I learned a lot about how the application process.
I hope this helps someone! #jobhunting
