It was supposed to be a one-year break. A break after more than a decade in the workforce. A break to take care of my mother who just had a heart attack and to grasp the remaining toddler years of my first-born child.
But that one year turned into two as I suffered a miscarriage. It became three years when the pandemic started a week after I gave birth to my rainbow baby. But at year four, last year, I took action to go back to corporate and started applying to companies and roles.
As some of you might know, going back after taking such a break is not easy. Going back to the corporate world and pivoting your role is also harder. You are questioned about your ability. And let's face it, a lot of recruiters turn you down for roles that are not an exact fit in title, regardless of your skill sets.
I kept looking and applying and I am happy to announce this week is the start of my fourth week back in the corporate world after four years away. And it was like I never left.
My new adventure is a Commercial Training Specialist at S&P Global Market Intelligence in their unique and robust Education team. This role allows me to help others meet their goals through deep engagement, mentoring and coaching. This is something that I'm passionate about and be able to utilize all my accumulated skill sets.
And ahead of International Women’s Day tomorrow, I am incredibly proud to be in a company that pushes the boundary to honor and support women. Check out https://lnkd.in/gDv24D-6 to see why it pays to invest in women.
Thank you to Tony E. for the introduction and Raymond Chau for making the connections. Thanks to Chris Chau and Kristine Ng to help make my onboarding process smooth. And most importantly, thank you to Alex Ioannides and Jeremy Davies for recognizing my talents and welcoming me onto their team.
Finally, I am forever grateful to my network of strong women and male allies who helped support and mentor me on this journey! Jason Ho, Vivien Webb WoMentor.at Lena Wong, CFA Lawrence Waldman Flora Ng Jo K. Crisel Consunji, M.A., M.Ed. Aaron Pang Ken Steel Velda Steel Wesley J. Lai
