Highlights
Heading into the weekend, I wrote about how one agency is putting #AI to use for good.
Monogram, an Alpharetta, Georgia-based design engineering agency, teamed up with the Center for Law, Brain and Behavior (CLBB) at Massachusetts General Hospital, a Harvard University teaching hospital, to launch an AI-powered online library to reduce the number of incarcerated youth.
The NeuroLaw Library, which launched Monday, contains the latest neuroscience and social science research on brain development in adolescents. The resource is meant to educate youths who are incarcerated--and their legal representation--in ways that could help them get out of prison, but can remain out of reach due to the time, education level, or technology required to understand it.
Together with CLBB's Stephanie Tabashneck, PsyD, JD, Monogram dreamed up using Google's generative AI Gemini to reinterpret texts at a sliding scale of reading comprehension levels so that everyone from an incarcerated child to a public defender short on time can understand.
"If we can get even one person out of jail that doesn't need to be in jail, we've won," Monogram co-founder and managing director DJ Patel says.

Tesla laid off much of the team in charge of its network of Superchargers.
That includes Rebecca Tinucci, the executive who led an effort to expand access to Tesla's charging stations to other EV-makers, successfully opening new revenue streams for Tesla and access to federal funding.
Her efforts earned her a spot on the 2023 Time100 Climate list. The decision to open Tesla chargers to other brands earned applause from President Joe Biden.
So what gives?
The latest round of layoffs followed a difficult Q1 for Tesla. CEO Elon Musk said on X the company "still plans to grow the Supercharger network, just at a slower pace for new locations and more focus on 100% uptime and expansion of existing locations."
