Chris Ellingson is a seasoned professional in the field of electrical and electronic design, with a strong background in PLC programming, troubleshooting, and site support for single-axis solar tracking systems meant for large-scale Photo-voltaic power plants.
Having worked on numerous large-scale REIPP4 projects valued at over a billion rand, Chris brings extensive experience in Factory Acceptance Testing, compliance with local and international standards (IEC, UL, SANS, etc), design validation, and certification processes such as IEC62817.
During his tenure at PiA Solar, Chris's design team achieved the prestigious IEC62817 certification, marking a significant milestone as the first company in the Southern Hemisphere to accomplish this.
Before his role at PiA Solar, Chris served as a project engineer and technician with S4 Integration, a company catering to major automotive and parts manufacturers in South Africa including General Motors, Volkswagen, Ford, Toyota, and Johnson Controls.
With a focus on turnkey solutions, system integration, automation, production machinery, and vehicle programming & diagnostics, Chris's expertise lies in vehicle diagnostics (OBD), programming, and PLC programming.
Chris's passion for electronics dates back to his childhood, where he exhibited a keen interest in dismantling and experimenting with various electrical and mechanical devices. This early curiosity led to a lifelong pursuit of tinkering and building innovative projects using recycled components and creative solutions.
His educational background includes PRO1 Siemens PLC training and a National Diploma in Electrical Engineering (Light Current & Control systems) from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University.
Chris has held various roles in esteemed organizations such as Senior Electronic Design Engineer at Greencells Group, Electrical Engineer at PIA Solar, and Project Engineer & Diagnostic testing engineer at S4 Integration & S4 Automation. Additionally, he served as the Owner of Serenity Stables and held positions as Customer DSA Technician and Customer FISMOS Technician at S4 Integration.
