Chris Evans

Chris Evans is an Emeritus Professor of Taxation at the UNSW Business School in Sydney, Australia. He is a former Head of the Australian School of Taxation (Atax) and is renowned for his expertise in comparative taxation, capital and wealth taxation, tax compliance costs, and tax policy and reform. His academic background includes a PhD from UNSW focusing on the operating costs of taxing capital gains, a Master’s degree in European Political Integration from Leicester University, and a Bachelor’s Honours degree in Economics from London University. He also holds postgraduate qualifications in education from Leeds University.124

Professor Evans has held prominent positions internationally, including as an International Research Fellow at Oxford University, an Extraordinary Professor at the University of Pretoria, and a Senior Research Fellow at Monash University. He has been a Visiting Professor at institutions such as the University of Canterbury in New Zealand and the Vienna University of Business and Economics in Austria. His extensive research contributions include co-authoring "Australian Taxation Law" and "Cooper & Evans on CGT," as well as serving as General Editor of the Australian Tax Review and on editorial boards of other leading journals.24

He has also been involved in governmental and professional committees globally, including the UK’s Mirrlees Committee and HMRC’s International Panel on tax administration. His research interests span tax compliance costs, small business taxation issues, international tax, and tax system simplification.234
