Highlights
Last Tuesday, a short doc that I cut went live on The New York Times Op-Doc section. The documentary follows the first hours of freedom for John "Jack" Powers after 33 years in federal prison, over 20 of which were in solitary confinement. Peter Quandt documented these first few hours and together we crafted a film that offers a nuanced portrait of incarceration that challenges our preconceived notions of criminality. The film and all of our wonderful collaborators made this, with love, for Jack and the millions of individuals and families touched by mass incarceration.
