I tried using ChatGPT to write a post about organizational readiness and product design. It didn’t go well, and that’s not the fault of OpenAI.

Now, to ChatGPTs credit, it wasn’t wrong. It provided great information focused on hiring and retaining a designer, and the design role itself, but nothing about how to be ready to add a designer to your organization. This is not surprising, as ChatGPT is trained on information already on the internet, and it truly does the best it can with the information provided to it.

Why is this important? This means that the common focus of information for adding a designer to your existing organization is just that: adding a designer.

However, the truth is that the decision to add a designer to your organization requires much more than a job post to ensure success, and for some organizations can initially be disruptive in the short term while your team establishes their new routines and workflows.

Designers are part of your product team. Designers are part of your engineering team.  Designers are part of your marketing team.  Designers are part of your sales team. Designers are part of your customer success team.

Due to how integral designers are, it’s important that they have exceptional access to documentation, past and future decisions, goals, and most importantly, customers.

Designers should have the ability to interact with the different teams in your organization to be educated on their processes, as well as influence how design is integrated across the organization, because design does not begin or end with your designers.

Your workflow should give space for designers to gather all of the information necessary to make informed decisions, and both the designers and teams need to be able to make hard compromises to release the best product possible.

If you’re thinking about adding design to your product process, or are transitioning to a product-driven team, reach out to us at Manafall. We have experience working with cross-disciplinary teams and implementing inclusive workflows to integrate your product process across your organization. We're always happy to talk shop and help your team get off on the route to success.

Wow! I'm nearly 3 weeks late in writing this. but it's been a year since Sevan Golnazarian and I founded Manafall.

In the past year we've:

  • Built 2 New Products for New Startups
  • Updated 2 Products for Existing Startups
  • Provide Ongoing / Team Augmentation Support for 2 Partners
  • Completed 3 Pre-Flight Documents for New / Existing Startups
  • Won 70% of the proposals we've pitched
  • Added two new team members
  • Reached Sustainable Profitability

This was an incredibly important year for me personally, as I made a promise to myself when I turned 25 that I would be working for myself before my 30th birthday. I achieved this only 1 month before my goal, and can't believe how much we've grown since.

As we start our second year, we're once again able to take on more projects as our team has grown.

If you are a founder or lead a technical department and need a team experienced in bringing products from idea to market, please reach out and learn how Manafall can help build and train your team!
