Thank You All:

It’s odd, I don’t often pay attention to this number, but logged in today and saw that it was a round 55k

That’s a lot of folks

Many of whom I’ve been able to talk with here, on direct message (DM), at conferences, or just catch up with over a cuppa tea etc.

Many others I’ve yet to meet, that IS the beauty of this platform, the ability TO meet new folks as time, schedules, and life allows.

Some folks have asked “how” to get a following on here… No clue, I post regularly, I’m the same “me” here as in person, and I try to keep the posts focused on things we could all use, or at least a little humor while poking fun at our industry etc. That’s it, no magic, just work, consistency, and making sure I do what I can to respond as time allows.

Speaking of which, I have a backlog of DM’s to get to this week (for the last few months) AND I am fighting with the upper limit of connections, so if you’ve reached out TO connect I promise I’ll try to find folks whom are dormant (or simply out to sell something) and release those to make space… or just follow. (AND please send a message with the connection.)

So, welcome to Tuesday, a simple “Thank You” and a promise to continue to bring the reality, sarcasm, humor, and occasional woofmutt pictures.

Sometimes, that light at the end of the tunnel IS a train…

What do you do?

  • Fight?
  • Flight?
  • Freeze?
  • OFI? (Oh, F**k It)

Lets break each down a little:

Fight: You knew this day was coming, you reach for the keyboard, weight it up in your hands, and get ready to smack it right between the eyes, tell it it’s a bad train and send it back to the station. Best case it listens, worst case you already built a safety net.

Flight: Heck no, it’s too large, you don’t get paid enough to deal with this, and even if you did, you never worked out how the heck TO deal with this. There’s going to be casualties, and it’s not your job. It’s a “Someone Else’s Problem” however this one’s not well hidden, and it’s coming right for you, therefore exit stage left.

Freeze: Ummm, nobody told you about trains, nobody warned you, they didn’t cover this in the onboarding, and there’s no policy, procedure, or control to deal with the oncoming train, you’re not sure what to do, say, or think. Quite simply, you are about to become a large jar of strawberry jam, please hold.

OFI: You pull up the deck chair, grab a bowl of popcorn and watch the scene unfold. Sure it’s a train, and it’s going to sting a little, but you warned folks, you tried to explain things, help them understand and they didn’t listen. You knew this day was coming, so you might as well go out in style. You take a sip from a drink while the train plough on. The drink has an umbrella in it for style points, ‘nuff said.

Summary? In our lives we are faced with these decisions on a daily basis. Depending upon our mood, mode, training, and a host of other variables the outcomes above are all valid. IN our world, with the advances in technology it behoves us to understand, acknowledge AND prepare for what’s coming next. Preferably before it runs us all over. We can’t all know everything, so surround yourself with others whom are willing to share. Take time TO understand the implications OF what’s coming next, and at least try to educate those around you. Best case you’ve got the keyboard in hand, worst case you have the popcorn ready…. Do NOT end up as a jar of digital strawberry jam please.
