How do you become an elite performer in ten weeks? Ask the right questions.
First: Decide. What needs done? How am I defining progress? Then: Optimize. How do I perform best? How can I recreate these conditions?
I like dividing the ten-week curriculum of Team Performance Training into two halves:
(1) “What to Do.” (2) “How to Do It.”
WHAT TO DO
Week 1: Craft Your Future “What does success look like?” Find alignment by getting clarity on what you are optimizing for most. Take the outside view on your life.
Week 2: Life As an Experiment “Am I taking the most direct path?” Identify your highest value opportunity. Work backward from desired outcomes. Converting your goals into behavioral experiments.
Week 3: See Like a System “Where do I have the most leverage?” Streamline processes and delegate effectively. Access all the organizational levers you have available. Address root causes, not symptoms.
Week 4: Cultivate a Deeper Presence “What is most relevant?” Deepen your focus to maximize your mental bandwidth. Design a supportive environment. Distinguish signal from noise.
Week 5: Important Before Urgent What is the top priority? Determine your highest priorities and make sure they come first. Implement strategies to stop perfecting and start shipping.
HOW TO DO IT
Week 6: Upgrade Your Behavior What behavior am I reinforcing? Operate at the meta-level, swapping out outdated patterns for better ones. Create a symbiotic relationship with your future self.
Week 7: Install Performance Architecture What conditions support my best self showing up? Perform as a cognitive athlete, installing structure to be more focused, energized, present, and effective on a daily basis.
Week 8: Accelerate Your Learning Who do I need to become to achieve this? Be deliberate in your acquisition of knowledge and skills. Adopt proven practices to maximize your training.
Week 9: Tactical Planning What can I do now to maximize my future chances of success? Choose your own adventure, stacking the odds in your favor. Be organized and decisive, confident that nothing is falling through the cracks.
Week 10: Close the Loop What am I carrying forward? What’s next? Develop a review process to surface lessons and generate next actions. Maximize your iteration speed. Stay in the game long enough to win.
Applications for the fifteen spots in Cohort 4 of Team Performance Training are open for the next week. These principles are just the tip of the iceberg.
