How should we pay for combination therapies? Answer: it depends. Our report, published today, helps navigate this question.

https://lnkd.in/drqCJVaE

There is a pressing need for industry and payers to come together to find a solution to the pricing of combination therapies, and our report is designed to grease the wheels.

Crucially, not all combination therapies are alike; decision-makers need to consider the circumstances in which a combination is coming to market. The approach that we describe should inform the adoption of pricing models for combination therapies across Europe.

And I quote: "we can say, with some confidence that NICE guidance does more harm than good with respect to the public health objective of the NHS"

https://lnkd.in/erQR_dqe

Is nobody else amazed that these authors keep making this statement, without ever looking at the consequences of changes in NICE guidance? NICE isn't perfect, but the idea that each of their recommendations is cleaving great chunks of health from the population just doesn't stand to reason. It implies that NHS staff - from doctors to managers - are complicit in this. Surely, they would observe the effects. Surely, they would speak up. Am I missing something?

Nevertheless, I'm always delighted to see a response to something I've written. Especially from the Centre for Health Economics gang... Even if the authors avoid the question we raised (in the title).

For what it's worth, I think NICE - National Institute for Health and Care Excellence does good work!
