Highlights
This year's Women in The Workplace Report is out! Thanks to Lady Bird Talent's newsletter, my inbox today had a nice recap. Here's what Kelsey Hayenga, SHRM-CP had to highlight: Women make up 26% of the C-suite (up only 7% from 2017) Of that 26%, only 5% are women of color. Why? Well, it all starts at the beginning -- that first promotion from entry-level to manager. For every 100 men who are promoted, only 87 women are promoted.
It is really freaking hard to get promoted. Women leaders are 2x as likely as men leaders to be mistaken for someone more junior and 37% of women leaders have had a coworker get credit for their ideas (compared to 25% of men leaders).
Women are overworked and under-recognized. They spend 2x as much time working on DEI while 40% say their DEI work is not acknowledged at all in performance reviews.
How do you retain women leadership? Here are the two biggest things: Offer workplace flexibility - 49% of women leaders say flexibility is one of the top three things they consider when deciding whether to join or stay with a company, compared to 34% of men leaders
Prioritize DEI - Women leaders are more than 1.5x as likely as men at their level to have left a previous job because they wanted to work for a company that was more committed to DEI
Read the full report here, still so much change that needs to happen and as a tech recruiter, I feel it's my job to spread the word!
I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Senior Technical Recruiter at Cash App!
