Highlights
This week, Hockey fans, Canadians, and humans within earshot have been leveled by the news of the Gaudreau brothers’ lives being taken by a drunk driver the night before their sister’s wedding.
Johnny Gaudreau was a National Hockey League (NHL) star. 🏒 In one video, I saw him wear an "A" on his jersey for the Calgary Flames. In another, I watched him score the game-winning goal against the Dallas Stars to advance Calgary to Round Two of the Stanley Cup playoffs. In a post, I saw him with his babies and wife on his 31st birthday. 🎂
Before yesterday, I only kinda knew who he was. Last night, I watched his game highlight reels and cried like I knew him and his brother personally. 😢
This is a tragedy, no question. It wasn’t my personal tragedy. But as a parent of two children, a sister of two hockey-playing brothers, and a deeply feeling person, it feels very personal.
Maybe this tragedy will move the needle on the drunk driving conversation. Maybe it will save multiple lives. 🚦
I’m going to turn this into something for myself and everyone reading this, especially speakers.
Whichever road you’ve journeyed on, whatever your life trajectory, however insignificant or ordinary your story feels, none of it is by accident.
A phrase I learned from the pastor of Lakepointe Church is, “Your misery is your ministry.” In other words, never let a good tragedy go to waste.
SPEAKERS: Your story could move the needle to impact multiple people's lives for the better. Tell it well. Put effort into how you tell it, focus hard when you tell it, and show up 100% for those you tell it to. Don’t let it go to waste. 🌟

My girlfriend shared a wild story today: her middle school daughter has been without a teacher for two weeks.😳 There's a sub, but he's just managing the middle school chaos.
The hired teacher? A no-show. Like, at all. The full story is still unfolding, but it got me thinking... 💭
Back in the late 1900s when I was teaching elementary school, we poured our hearts into it—early mornings, late nights, summers, PD—you name it. (Many still do, of course.)
Here in 2024, we hear too often about what seemed inconceivable back then, that people - professionals, yet - are straight up ghosting their jobs.
SPEAKERS: What would you pay yourself if you punched a clock at work? Are you ghosting yourself on your speaking career? Your competitive advantage in 2024 could be as simple as showing up for your shift (and working overtime). The bar is low—imagine what you could achieve by going above and beyond. 🚀
