DO YOU USE GOOGLE ANALYTICS?
In the land of I didn't know but should have known, today I share this critical information (hat tip to my friend Mark Zahar at TapClicks):
"If you are like the tens of thousands of Google Analytics users, you have received an email titled "All Universal Analytics services cease to function starting July 1, 2024".
This is the last reminder that your UA data will be gone forever.
You should export your data to prevent problems down the road, but the questions of "... to where and why?" remain.
As Zahar explained, TapClicks is specifically designed to store and report on ALL data, including your historical UA data. Your data never goes away or is deleted:
- You can review all of your historical data forever
- You can compare UA and GA4 data
- Support to help you with the process
- Flexibility to export to other databases
And, no, you don't have to be a full-fledged TapClicks customer to utilize this service.
Reach out to Mark at [email protected]
And, no, I don't make any money from posting this or have any financial interest in TapClicks.
I hope those who follow the news industry will want to understand Google's viewpoint from the source rather than rely solely on media interpretations, opinion pieces, or rumors. While Google's decision to conduct tests in California might provoke significant criticism, I believe these trials are a sound business strategy, especially considering the potential effects of the CJPA on Google's operations.
As discussions in journalism circles intensify over the coming days regarding this decision, it's important to recognize the valuable contributions Google has made to journalism and local media over the last decade. Google has invested hundreds of millions of dollars into global journalistic efforts through the Google News Initiative (GNI), advertising technology partnerships, and collaborations with organizations focused on local news like LION, the Local Media Association, and the Local Media Consortium.
As someone with extensive experience in this arena, I don’t think it's fair to couch this as a binary, good-guy, bad-guy argument. Regardless of the outcomes, if you're unaware of Google's positive impact on the news ecosystem, I encourage you to research it further, perhaps starting with a Google search.
