I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Manager, Human Resources Business Partner at American Express! I'll be supporting our amazing colleagues within the US Consumer Services business. I'm excited for my next adventure at Amex.
Last week, I graduated with my Professional MBA from the Fordham Gabelli School of Business. I am extremely proud of my accomplishment as a first-generation student who also worked full-time during the program the last 2.5 years. I finished the program with a 3.98 GPA and was inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society.
Growing up, I had trouble imagining this type of success for myself. I didn't know of any Vietnamese-Americans in higher education or corporate settings that I could turn to. My roots seemed to dictate where my life could go. My parents were born in post-war Vietnam and were raised with the challenges that brings. After some time as boat refugees, they arrived virtually penniless in a country where every facet of life was completely foreign. Nevertheless, they showcased resilience, determination, and grit in order to raise me in a better environment. In fact, my roots gave me all the right tools I'd ever need to succeed anywhere. I have never been prouder to be a first-generation Vietnamese-American.
Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this pivotal moment in my life. I am grateful for my family, friends, and classmates who have cheered me on through this journey. Additionally, I'd like to share a special thanks my respective leaders (Julia Breedon, June L., and Russ Hoyle) for giving me the flexibility and support to finish my program strongly. A special thanks to American Express for providing a culture that allows me to be my authentic self as an Asian American woman and to pursue the career dreams that used to feel so distant. Vanessa Vercollone, thank you for believing in me when I shared my ambition to enroll back in 2020. I could not have done it without all of you!
