Christina Woo

Assistant Professor at Harvard University

Christina M. Woo is the Morris Kahn Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Harvard University.3 She joined the faculty at Harvard in 2016, initially as an Assistant Professor.4

Academic Background

Dr. Woo obtained her BA in Chemistry from Wellesley College in 2008.34 She then went on to earn her PhD from Yale University in 2013, where she worked under the guidance of Professor Seth B. Herzon on the synthesis and chemical biology studies of diazofluorene antitumor antibiotics.3 Following her doctoral studies, she completed postdoctoral fellowships at the University of California Berkeley and Stanford University with Professor Carolyn R. Bertozzi, focusing on chemical glycoproteomics.34

Research Focus

The Woo lab combines chemical biology, organic synthesis, and mass spectrometry to understand small molecule activity in the proteome.12 Their research aims to:

  1. Develop and apply chemical proteomic methods to study interactions of therapeutics, natural products, and metabolites within the cellular proteome.
  2. Create synthetic access to unique chemical scaffolds and identify their protein targets and functional relationships to biological outcomes.

Dr. Woo's work has implications for drug discovery, synthetic methods, and understanding new mechanisms by which small molecules influence biological systems.2

Honors and Awards

Throughout her career, Dr. Woo has received numerous prestigious awards, including:

  • Camille and Henry Dreyfus Teacher–Scholar Award (2020)
  • National Science Foundation CAREER Award (2020)
  • Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellow in Chemistry (2019)
  • NIH DP1 Avenir Award (2018)
  • Burroughs Wellcome Fund Career Award at the Scientific Interface (2015–2020)3

Christina Woo's research continues to contribute significantly to the fields of chemical biology and proteomics at Harvard University.
