The best election content I have seen for ages has just been produced in Australia.

There is a very important referendum happening in Australia now that would change the constitution to give Indigenous Australians a body that could make representations to parliament.

As with elections, mis-truths, conspiracy theories, advice based on lies and wilful or accidental miscommunication passed on from one to another are all happening.

Which is why this piece of content is so outstanding.

It's just encouraging people to find the truth.

It's not patronising, its not populist, not looking to divide or drive culture wars. A note to some parties over here! It's based on simple great insights and young people behaviour. Who are loving the ad themselves, who are engaging with it in a positive way.

We are coming up to an election year, and this is the benchmark. Looking at some of recent electioneering, especially some of the Brexit comms that people admitted were not true, I worry that we will be able to drag ourselves up to this level.

I hope we do.

Advertising could learn a lot from Spurs and Ange Postecoglou.   As I write this Spurs are forth in the Premiership, more importantly they are a different, happier, more successful team then they have been in the previous few years. There is a joy back in the club that is evident for all to see.   The new manager Ange Postecoglou seems to be at the heart of all of this, but he was by no means their first choice.   In his own words, Ange admits he was ‘the last man standing’ when he was hired.   Rather than being able to secure the expected type of manager, the young coach, the cup winner, the tried and trusted in a league which is respected, they ended up with a far better option.   Someone who would love the job, had his own style, understood the mission and vision of the club, and understood what the fans wanted.     Ange said in a recent interview that although he had been a successful manager as a national manager with Australia and as a club in manager in Japan when he would go to conferences he would be largely ignored, which hurt him.   He was told by someone else in the football world that it is better to have failed and sacked three times in Europe than been successful elsewhere.   His higher risk style of play, he admits can cause problems, but it creates higher rewards too.   The previous managers, safe choices, playing safe football creating no real rewards.   I believe advertising needs to be a bit more Ange. Higher risk in its hiring strategy and in its creativity.   Agencies largely select the same people, with the same experience, working on the same brands. It is a tick box game. They don't know what to do with different types of people.   They play with ideas that brands can easily buy, rather than anything dangerous and exciting.   There’s a lot of interesting people, from different backgrounds within and outside of the industry that can add a lot to increasing the success and creativity of work.   For an industry that spends a lot of time talking about differentiation and distinctiveness we don't do it very well ourselves.

Lets be more Ange. #advertising #branding #content #brandedcontent #marketing #broadcast #formats
