Highlights
I'm excited to announce that I've joined the Integrity Institute, a member-driven think tank dedicated to creating a social internet that benefits individuals, society, and democracy. As a member, I'm joining its network of integrity professionals in tech—spanning fields like trust & safety, cybersecurity, cybercrime, and tech policy—to contribute to research and policy work aimed at building a safer, more beneficial social internet.
I'm looking forward to revisiting the big picture of how the internet and society interact. Part of my PhD dissertation explored topics like political polarization and misinformation on social media, which inspired me to pursue a career in building a more beneficial internet for society. For the past few years, I've been doing hands-on work at the interface of trust & safety and cybersecurity in the tech industry, but often deeper in the (technical) weeds.
Now, I'm grateful to be plugging into this broader network of like-minded technology optimists and thinking big about the future of our digital world!
As a board member for Abundant Housing LA, I was fortunate to help spearhead this collaborative white paper written by a coalition of urbanist and climate groups in Los Angeles: "Infill Housing & Land Use as a Tool To Fight Climate Change"! 🌎🏬🌳
Our white paper underscores how allowing more density in our cities can not only address our housing shortage and affordability crisis but also significantly reduce carbon emissions, improve air quality, and allow more people to live in areas with lower climate risk. I even got to briefly wear my ecologist hat when we discussed how infill housing protects native biodiversity by stopping the urban sprawl that destroys untouched habitats. We’ve included a set of straightforward policy suggestions that local governments can easily adopt to create the sustainable, walkable, and affordable cities we desperately need.
Many thanks to our partners at Urban Environmentalists, YIMBY Action, Sunrise Movement LA, Livable Communities Initiative, and The Climate Reality Project LA—and a special shoutout to my co-organizing authors Christopher Rhie and Awoenam Mauna-Woanya, EIT!
