Highlights
Today Yum! Brands reported our second quarter results, where system sales grew 3% driven by 5% unit growth. Despite the continued challenging operating environment, Yum! delivered 10% Core Operating Profit growth, reflecting the resilience of our scaled, global, multi-brand business model; the increasing benefits of our digital and technology strategy; and the expert management of the business by our leaders around the globe. Our unit growth remains robust and diversified across brands and countries, including 894 gross new openings, the second highest number of Q2 gross openings in Yum!’s history. I’m also incredibly proud of the progress we’re making on our journey to become the leading global digital restaurant company, including nearly $8 billion in digital sales and a digital mix of over 50% in the quarter. We’re accelerating deployment of our foundational technology platforms, doubling down on AI initiatives and generating value from our massive data assets. A prime example is our expansion of drive-thru Voice AI technology – currently in more than 100 Taco Bell U.S. drive-thrus across 13 states – to hundreds of Taco Bells by the end of 2024. We’re also testing the Voice AI technology in five KFC drive-thrus in Australia. We’re making incredible strides toward our distinctive digital and technology ambitions and believe we’re still only scratching the surface of the full value-creation potential of our capabilities. https://lnkd.in/gV9FKgBm
We’re continuing to dial up our digital efforts to deliver More, Better, Faster, Cheaper and Safer technology to our Yum! Brands franchisees and to elevate the customer and team member experience. Joe Park gave a few great examples of these efforts with Dragontail at Pizza Hut, voice AI in Taco Bell drive-thrus and kiosk usage at KFC in his recent interview with Yahoo Finance. Thank you, Joe, for your incredible leadership and for sharing our digital strategy. #GoodGrowth
