Clarence Foster

Clarence E. Foster, III MD FACS is a highly accomplished physician and surgeon with extensive experience in transplantation and military service. He currently serves as the Medical Director of Advisory Services at Sound Physicians.2
Dr. Foster received his undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Southern California and his medical degree from The Johns Hopkins University in 1990.1 He completed his General Surgery residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and the University of Maryland Medical System, followed by a Fellowship in Kidney and Pancreas Transplantation.1
Throughout his career, Dr. Foster has held several prestigious positions, including:
- Director of Kidney and Pancreas Transplant Surgery at the University of California, Irvine Medical Center
- Division Chief of Transplantation at UC Irvine from 2006 to 2016
- Full Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of California, Irvine, School of Medicine
- Surgical Director of Kidney Transplantation at HCA TriStar Centennial Medical Center
- Adjunct Professor in the Department of Surgery at Meharry Medical College1
Dr. Foster has made significant contributions to the field of transplantation, with over 50 peer-reviewed publications and 100 peer-reviewed abstracts and posters presented at national and international meetings.1 He has also served as the Principal Investigator in numerous clinical trials of novel immunosuppressive agents for transplantation.1
In addition to his medical career, Dr. Foster served for over 20 years in the U.S. Army Reserves, including deployments with Forward Surgery Teams in Iraq (2008) and Afghanistan (2011).12 His military service has earned him various awards and commendations.1
Dr. Foster is Board-Certified in General Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.1 He continues to contribute to the medical field through his role at Sound Physicians and by serving on various national boards, including the American Society of Transplant Surgeons.1
