You guys remember November 2023, when one in five VMware customers told Forrester they wanted to leave the stack, this year? 😱
Back then, it was expected that customers would gravitate towards Cisco and Nutanix, among other vendors. The key reason was their dissatisfaction with the new subscription model and the rather drastic pricing changes at VMware after their Broadcom takeover.
I am curious to see whether customers will take this opportunity to reconsider not only their vendor, but their overall platform strategy. Let's just say, perhaps this is a good opportunity to reevaluate which of your servers, desktops and other workloads really need to be running on premises. ⛅
Since the image below is a Reddit-Quote from 2018, I'm going to add something more up to date, as well: Microsofts Azure VMware Solution [1] that is now supported by substantial discounts to ease the transition. (So yea, you can actually save $ with a cloud migration, this time. 😉) Also, being a fully managed VMware environment, AVS allows your teams to continue using familiar skills while familiarizing themselves with Azure.
If you want to know more, there's two things you can do, right now. First: read this article [2] by MCT Jeremy Wallace. Secondly: contact Macaw Deutschland or, even easier - me. We'll figure it out, together. 🚀

Being a Partner Manager, Account Executive or Business Developer in the Microsoft Ecosystem has it's perks. Unfortunately, it's also the least likely career path to become an MVP. 😄
I'll do it, either way. Someday. 🚀
Until then, I'll gratefully spread the word on Community Events so we all might learn something. (Especially if Dr. Alexander Wachtel reminds me. I tend to forget stuff. Thanks a ton, Alex.)
While the Summit features multiple expert sessions regarding Copilot and OpenAI, those who are saturated on GenAI topics might be interested in one of the following talks:
- At 2:30pm, Sandro Speth will be sharing his best practice for the communication between microservices using DAPR and GraphQL. (If you join this session, it might save you some support interaction, later. 😉)
- In the afternoon, Daniel N. has a session on the challenges of transferring EntraID Azure subscriptions.
- Christian Waha will be giving an update on Azure Quantum and Q#. I'm super happy about that session, in particular since I'm very confused that not enough people are hyped about Microsofts progress, here. It's always one hype at a time, apparently. 😅
