Yesterday we had to say goodbye to our girl Lucy. I screamed and yelled when she went limp in my arms but it was time. She lived for 15 years and what a 15 years it was.
From South Carolina to New York to Georgia, Lucy was there with Linds and I.
Goose began her life tied to a railroad track. Someone had decided she didn’t deserve life. But a shelter that we volunteered at found her and rescued her.
When we first met her, Lucy was scared of everything. Bikes, trucks, hardwood floors, you name it, she was terrified. But we saw in those beautiful eyes that deep down there was a pup who just wanted a chance and some love.
We brought her home for a test trial and at one moment Linds smeared peanut butter all over my face. I laid down and it was like a key unlocked something in Lucy. She was overjoyed, jumping, smiling. She had found her people and we had found our pup.
She wasn’t always the best behaved but it’s because she was so full of love that she needed to share it. You had to see her just run after a ball, jump up to say hey when she wasn’t supposed to or give our kids a big wet kiss in the face, it was pure joy.
That’s how I’ll remember Lucy. One that brought love to our house. We’ll never forget her and she will always be with us.
Linds and I are sad that she is gone but grateful for the time we got to spend with her. If you met her, we hope you are too.
