Colin O'Brien is an award-winning innovative product design engineer and the CEO and Founder of PeggyRain®. He invented PeggyRain, a smart clothesline that automatically covers laundry when it rains, inspired by a conversation with his late mother Margaret.12

O'Brien has a notable track record in product design and engineering:

  • Won the European Product Design Award in 2018 for his work on the Compakt Power Supply
  • Achieved 3rd Prize in the GEC & Taipei International Pitching Competition in 2018
  • Earned recognition as the Young Engineer of the Year with a 3rd place award from Engineers Ireland

Recently, O'Brien appeared on BBC One's Dragons' Den, securing an £80,000 investment from Touker Suleyman for a 25% stake in his business, which includes PeggyRain and other inventions like RollAer, a suitcase with durable wheels.23

O'Brien's expertise spans various industries, including homeware, sports, medical, renewable energy, defense, construction, and consumer goods. He has successfully managed outsourced development and manufacturing projects in Europe and Asia.

His educational background includes studying Research and Development Project Management and Mechanical Engineering at IMechE, as well as qualifications from Dundalk Institute of Technology and Technological University Dublin.
