Rich Barton 1.5 months ago I tried to rent a property via Zillow and was scammed for ~$10k. The owner on the listing is real (as I found out when I went to the property) however the contact information goes to the scammer - who happens to have many personal details about the owner which were shared via email. After I realized it I reported the listing on Zillow, it was taken down but I didn't hear back (not great but no big deal). While it sucked, these things do happen. I was surprised to receive an email from Zillow today suggesting I recent the same listing. A quick skim showed the contact name is still the same (as that is the deeded property owner's name) but the phone number change. It's clear the same scam is going on. I don't know Zillow's listing policy, however it seems like this scammer knows how to get around it and is continuing to exploit it on the same listing. Also feels pretty off to email someone to rent a property the reported they were previously scammed on. I do like Zillow's rental feature, I've used it before but the trust & safety element seems quite broken. Figured it's worth sharing in case you weren't aware of the details.
I'm excited to share the outcome of the focused effort to improve Yelp's Android app!
I've been an Android user since 2012 and have never owned an iPhone, so getting to work on an initiative that impacts millions use each week, including myself, has been unique and memorable experience :)
Huge shout out to the teams that contributed to this and continue to make invest in making our Android app.
