Highlights
Make an impact, don't chase a title.
This is my 10th year selling software and if there's one thing I've learned (by falling into the trap) is that you don't need a fancy title to make a difference. The best way to make an impact is to start where you are and look for ways to add value to your customers and team.
Here are a few things I've been thinking about lately that I wish I would have known earlier on in my career:
Become a trusted advisor. Be more curious than you already are. Take the time to understand your customers' businesses and challenges, and then use your knowledge to help them develop solutions.
Go above and beyond. Don't just do what's expected of you; look for ways to help others around you and be the person/mentor you wish you had in your first year on the job.
Be proactive. Don't wait for problems to come to you; anticipate them and develop solutions before they become a problem.
Be a team player. Be willing to help out your colleagues and share your knowledge.
When you start making an impact, people will notice. And when they notice, you'll be well on your way to achieving your career goals.
So don't wait for the title. Step up today and start making a difference!
