Colton Harper

Graduate Research Assistant @ UNL & Managing Director @ If Then

Colton Harper is a Ph.D. student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, majoring in computer science and biology. He is actively involved in various student organizations and has a keen interest in the ethical implications of advanced technologies.

As a co-founder and graduate student advisor for UNL Initialize, Colton mentors over 50 undergraduate students, providing them with opportunities for professional development and community service.

Colton leads the Broader Considerations of Technology student group, where he serves as the director and grant writer. He is also an associate conference organizer for the Ethics and Broader Considerations of Technology Conference.

Starting his research journey in 2016 with the UNL iGEM team, Colton has since worked in the MBiTe Lab, exploring computational modeling, molecular communication, information theory, and synthetic biology. He received various grants and fellowships, including the Othmer Graduate Fellowship and McNair Graduate Fellowship.

Colton holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and is pursuing his Ph.D. under the mentorship of Dr. Massimiliano Pierobon.

Previously, Colton served as a Curriculum Developer at Beyond School Bells and held positions as a Graduate Research Assistant in the MBiTe Lab and Managing Director at If Then - Tech and Society.
