Conal Byrne is the Chief Executive Officer of the iHeartMedia Digital Audio Group, a position he has held since February 2021.16 In this role, he oversees all of iHeartMedia's digital ventures, including its rapidly growing podcasting business and the iHeartRadio digital service.3
Under Byrne's leadership, iHeartMedia has become the world's leading podcast publisher, managing nearly 1,000 original shows that collectively garner over 250 million downloads each month.35 He is responsible for the operations and performance of the iHeartPodcast Network, which includes more than 750 iHeartRadio original shows across various genres.14
Before his current position, Byrne served as the President of iHeartMedia from October 2018 to January 2021.6 Prior to joining iHeartMedia, he was the President and CEO of Stuff Media, Inc., known for the popular HowStuffWorks podcasts.13 Byrne also has experience as Senior Vice President of Digital Media for Discovery Communications, where he led digital initiatives for U.S. networks and launched Discovery VR.13
Byrne's career in digital media spans over two decades. He started as General Manager at HowStuffWorks.com from 2006 to 2013, where he launched several award-winning podcasts and grew the site's audience significantly.6 He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Georgetown University and a Master's degree from Columbia University, both earned with honors.6
