Highlights
Eight years ago, on April 9, 2016, my life took a turn.
I had my fifth concussion and a subarachnoid hemorrhage (brain bleed).
At the time, I was entering my redshirt sophomore season as a QB at Ohio University.
Football was my life.
Nearly all my time was spent practicing, lifting, throwing, and watching film.
During the day, I would even crack open a window in our weight room.
And late at night, I would climb through the window to get some extra workouts in.
I was obsessed. (and I don't use that word lightly, I've always had a few screws loose)
Then, during our spring game, after a routine hit, I suffered a concussion + brain bleed.
A few months post-injury (on my 21st birthday), I was forced to medically retire.
I’ll spare the details, but for the next couple of years, I made some pretty sh*tty decisions and was in a dark spot.
I was lost, confused, depressed, and dealing with post-concussion symptoms.
Until I discovered Gary Vee.
That was the spark I needed to turn things around a bit.
I always knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur.
But I didn’t have a guiding light to make it happen.
I started diving into personal branding, design, web development, and content creation.
And looking back, it was the beginning of what SpeakrBrand is today.
The passion I felt, and still feel to this day, is oddly similar to how I felt strapping up my helmet and stepping onto the football field.
It took me a while to figure out what was next after football.
But now, I look at all of it as a blessing in disguise.
Everything happens for a reason.
And sometimes, our biggest challenges turn into our greatest opportunities.
