Highlights
Sharing to my network for any relevant folks... Roger, Scott Debson and the team at MIB are amazing, smart folks who lead in communicating the glory of football to so many and who wouldnt want to help build the biz with the World Cup on the Horizon and the sport at an all time high and an excuse to go to a bar at the crack of dawn PST for a match!
I consider myself lucky to have been a small part of the MTV lineage. I was hired and joined in 2006 and one of my remits was to oversee MTV.com and it was clear to me the core of the brand was the heritage captured in their news archives. The complete modern history of music was captured and presented with integrity, heart, soul, and love for the subject matter. Artists showed up and presented their true selves and prior to the ease of amplified viral-ity via social media, word and impact spread quickly.
We had spun a project to mine the archives and go deeper and wider than was originally presented and what exists in the vault beyond the final edits is beyond magic.
So to learn that MTV News was down as of yesterday is crushing. The teams that built this archive, wrote the stories, hung with the artists... were there in the moment and put their souls in the work and from writers to editors to the product and engineering teams that made it consumable, I saw passion and love in all aspects of this work. For so many, this was not just a job, but a desire to be part of something bigger.
I hope the Paramount team can look beyond the operating costs of maintaining a simple archive site and look at what it means to offer this to generations to come. I hope they can find a way OR let someone who can present and respect the archive let it live and flourish in the spirit and integrity of the teams who worked hard to make it happen...
And of course the artists... It started there..
