An update!! #recruiters #phishing

Thank you to all of those who contacted me both privately and through LinkedIn to share their similar experiences of recruiters and the ghosting.

It seems as if it is more common than I expected, but also with a disappointing but predictable twist...... phishing for phone numbers....

Quite a few individuals shared a similar story to mine, contact via DM, the person has a brief LinkedIn profile, seems legit, the usual story, "I have noticed your profile and you seem a strong candidate for (insert as required), and we do a lot of work in your region" -then the request for a phone call...."what's your number?", or, "what's the best number to call you on?"......

Then the ghosting.....

Fast forward a week or so then the random and unexpected phone calls come in from Financial Advisors/Investors/Pension Experts...

If anyone else has had this pattern I would be interested to hear from you.

And if you are a legitimate and professional Recruiter/Head Hunter I can only apologise as these individuals are not promoting your profession in a favourable light.

Dear friends and colleagues, I need your help.....

I need your experience, guidance and potential connections to dispel my naiveté and suppress my growing cynicism around the "professional recruiters" on LinkedIn.

I know that out there, credible, professional and committed individuals and companies must exist, but at the minute I seem to be contacted by individuals simply wanting to bump their numbers up each week.

Not a week seems to go by without someone dropping into my messages with a cheery, "Hello, I have noticed your profile and you seem to be a perfect fit for a role we have now/coming up (delete as appropriate), it would be great to connect and I can tell you more about it".

I reply with interest, ask some general questions about the role...... usually deflected with, "I can't tell you specifics right now", or, "I will happily share when we can arrange a call".....

Then the ghosting begins.......

So far I have had a variety of reasons for the lack of contact, including illness, prolonged holidays, maternity/paternity leave, moving house, moving jobs..... etc

Now, all of these are valid reasons for not following up with potential clients, but the interesting thing seems to be that they all happen within 24 hours of the initial contact!!!

I have appealed to the recruiters to be different from the others, "please don't be like the rest", and they cheerly reply "I am different, I am the genuine article"...... and then................silence..........

So, my friends am I just a naive fool, falling for the LinkedIn equivalent of the "Long lost relative who wants to give me a fortune" in my email spam?

Do real Recruiters and Head Hunters truly exist?

Who do I trust?

And for those of you fleeting "recruiters", who tease and run.... I know who you are.....I've kept your messages......
