big news for me: after 5000+ days and too many excellent colleagues to mention, I'm leaving Google.

it's been a fantastic ride: I showed up at Google with a lot of excitement and without the foggiest idea of how industry actually worked. I've been figuring it out as I go, and had a great time working on some fantastic projects along the way. more importantly, I've met so many amazing people: I have enjoyed getting to know and learning from so many excellent folks, and the hardest part about leaving is saying goodbye to my teammates and colleagues.

I can't resist gushing a bit more about Colab: I really do love this product, and I am genuinely proud of both the team and the product we've built. I am being uncharacteristically serious when I say I am extraordinarily excited about how bright the team's future looks, and I fully expect to remain a happy daily user. my Google career was bookended by two amazing products and teams (BigQuery and Colab), and I'm so happy about everything I've learned along the way.

to answer the obvious question: what's next for Craig? I could happily work on Colab another 9 years, but I've been saying for too long that I have been looking to get back to doing something more research-y. I'm finally making good on that promise: I'm going to be joining the mechanistic interpretability team at Anthropic. I'm stoked to dive into the deep end.
