We know that Australians considered dissidents or critics of a number of foreign governments are surveilled, but intention to kill or harm, whether on Australia soil or abroad is extremely disturbing.
Having led a campaign to retrieve a refugee from a foreign country with a third party government seeking his extradition, and been involved in other cases out of the public domain, one thing is clear, once action is taken or an Australian travels abroad and is unknowingly put at risk, it is extremely difficult and sometimes too late.
This is why Australians, in my view, have a right to know any and all Governments which are a direct or even potential and credible threat to their safety, particularly those advocating for human rights or who may do so in future.
Australians can at least make more considered and informed decisions about travel, and risk.
