Highlights
This year, I’ve spent 9 hours with SEO to sell US$50k of travel products. I’ve taken a commission on it all.
That’s not a lot, especially considering what we used to turn over when travel publishing was my full time gig, but it’s a pretty good return on the time I’ve put into it.
And if it wasn’t for restaurant month in Auckland this month, I might have spent another hour and published something else. (Photos to prove the distraction is real!)
Why the humble brag? Because I want you to know that I don’t just do SEO for my day job. Directly making money from it used to make up a significant part of my income, and now I rely on it to pay for my extensive eating out budget 🤣
If your business needs a return from SEO, get in touch.
I’m meeting with two software tool vendors today. They both do “the same thing”, so which do I choose?
Each play in the same field, technical SEO, and both have unique ways of approaching the problems I face, and the issues I want to solve for customers.
There’s a lot of crossover and some unique elements. As a department lead, I want efficiency through consistency - and cost effectiveness too!
But sometimes that’s a false equivalency.
A builder will need to cut timber. They’re not going to have just 1 saw. Not even in this age of pre-cut modular housing.
There are different saws for different jobs. Size of workload, intricate pieces, good enough for framing, nice enough for a fence line.
With SEO it’s the same: do we need to understand you, your audience, where they hang out, what keeps them awake at night? That’s some pretty intense tooling , in-person meetings and interviews. Or do we need some rough-cut lengths to achieve the next affordable step for you?
Should be an interesting few conversations!
