I am not an early bird but every now and then, I wake up with the sun. The peace and quiet at dawn has me rethinking whether I should make myself an early bird 🤔 I snapped this photo of sunrise this morning as I started my day taking a walk through my neighborhood among the trees listening to birdsong, and it was lovely🧡   It's a new day, folks! We get to let go of tomorrow and make it a great day! This is as much a reminder to myself as it is to everyone 😊

Feeling refreshed and grateful to have had a much needed relaxing and adventurous week away from it all. It’s always been rare for me to take a full week off work, I typically take a few days here and there, but that is a habit I intend to do away with going forward. I am lucky enough to work at a company with leaders that stress the importance of taking time to recharge and they make sure their employees really do have the space to take the time they need. I was definitely moving dangerously close to burnout territory when 3 different leaders each asked me if I had time off scheduled and when I said no, they helped me figure out how to make it happen sooner rather than later.

Last week I hit the road with my beloved German Shepherd, Indiana Sweet Corn (yes, that's her real name), to visit White Sands National Park. This is the second solo road trip I’ve taken with her to see National Parks, and it was just as rewarding this time around. Back in 2021, I was in a rut and one of my coaches told me I needed to find some awe. I shared with them my goal to visit all 62 National Parks and they challenged me to take a solo road trip to see a few. I’d never done anything like that before but I’m beyond glad I did. I learned so many valuable lessons that still ring true today.

👉 I’m an introvert. I need quiet time, time alone, and time to be with my thoughts. It’s really easy to get all of those things when you’re driving alone for long periods or staying in a remote location.

👉 I need accountability. It motivates me and gives me a reason to get out of bed each day. Having places to be by certain times and a dog to take care of meant that I had to get up and get moving each day and it gave me a sense of accomplishment.

👉 I’m a worrier and can limit myself in an effort to avoid risks. I need reminders that I can deal with whatever bumps I encounter along the way. What if I get lost, what if I have car trouble, what if I run into horrible weather on a winding mountain road? All of those actually happened and I handled all of them and everything worked out ok.

My two cents – prioritize taking time off work, don’t wait until you’re exhausted to do it, and most of all, make sure it’s the type of time away that you need.
