Cynthia Onyinye Mbamalu is a seasoned human and gender rights advocate and a development practitioner with a background in law, specializing in human and women's rights advocacy, youth leadership development, constitution building, and elections.

She is a co-founder of Yiaga Africa, where she has dedicated over 14 years to promoting sustainable democracies, political inclusion, and human rights, particularly focusing on gender equality and democratic governance.

Cynthia leads various initiatives at Yiaga Africa, including the Annual Democracy Camp for teenagers and the Youth Organizing School for young people in Nigeria and West Africa, emphasizing policy advocacy, civic engagement, and promoting youth political leadership.

As the Director of Programs at Yiaga Africa, she spearheads engagements with the Legislature on Electoral Reform and Constitutional review, advocating for gender-sensitive laws that enhance women's political inclusion and address Sexual and Gender-Based Violence in Nigeria.

Through her involvement in election observation missions and leading the #WatchingTheVote project, Cynthia remains committed to promoting electoral integrity utilizing data-driven methods.

She holds an impressive educational background, including an LLM in Comparative Constitutional Law from the Central European University (CEU) and participation in various leadership programs from renowned institutions like Harvard Kennedy School of Government, University of South Africa, and University of Cape Town.
