Happy Festivus (for the rest of us)! Happy Holidays Everyone! if you haven't watched the Seinfeld episode where the word / holiday first appears, do yourself a favor. In short, it's a made-up holiday (by the character played by the great Borsht Belt comedian Jerry Stiller, Ben Stiller's father) in a secular Jewish home where they don't celebrate Christmas, but rather they gather on December 23 to voice their grievances and do some fist fighting. (Spoiler alert: if you are less interested to know about my grievances, scroll down for the brief end-of-year results and resolutions) So... in all seriousness, I am angry that from Never Again we have arrived at having it Again. I am sad that we got to live in another very unsafe period of time after several decades of hope, even if illusionary one. I am disappointed that lies are sold wholesale as truth, and even those good at heart often buy into them. I am sad to have lost some friends over this, but I can't keep saying that it's alright when it's not. I am not very sympathetic to people who judge others from the high seat of their privilege of having been born into safety. I have learned to move away and move on when I feel not accepted and when my intentions and commitments are clearly not reciprocal: by doing so I win more than I lose, because what's there to lose? Well... Now to the better part, if you are still reading. For an early and brief end-of-year summary and an early resolution for 2024, I would like to have strength to continue my new full-time job I took on in 2023, namely, taking care of my health as a top priority above all and any professional commitments. I am infinitely grateful for the opportunities I got this year: doctors' and trainer's advice and them slowly but steadily rewiring my brain for a new set of priorities and associated habits, for access to the medicines that made my path much more attainable, for getting to create, produce, and perform music and theatre that I love with people I adore and learn from, for traveling, seeing new places, and reconnecting with my family and friends. This is huge in fact. These past several years have reminded me (us all) that life is fragile, and that its longevity in too many aspects is way out of our control. And yet, by doing my part, I know that I make every moment of my life a more quality-infused one. If you're still here and if you care to know, I have dreams, many of them. Some are creative, some concern connecting and reconnecting my worlds, sewing back the torn-apart fabric of life... May 2024 bring us good news, may those who hate us disappear and their names be erased, and on the contrary, may all who I care for stay alive and well, and if they are not well, may they have a full and speedy recovery. A few miracles in 2024 won't hurt either, jussayin. Cheers! 🏋‍♂️ 🎷 🥂
