Highlights
After 3 amazing years at The Knowledge Society (TKS), I’ve made the tough decision to move on to my next adventure.
My biggest takeaway… the program works. When students trust the process, and put in effort, they see tangible, real world results.
Outcompeting university students for internships, speaking on massive stages around the world, building a portfolio of projects with emerging technologies, or simply understanding how to leverage their work to create opportunities that 10 months prior, they didn’t dream possible.
For some it happens immediately, and for others, it finally clicks years later (those are my favourite messages to get). But it works. And it’s real.
I’m excited that I’ll be able to point to the person who makes the next big climate tech breakthrough, knowing I shredded their first attempt at a Learn article, or their Next Big Thing presentation. Ifykyk.
But I’m even more excited to be able to take the lessons that I’ve learned coaching students, and scale that to a wider audience.
As cool as the projects were, I saw the most growth from students in terms of how they learned to approach the world, and understood how they could create the life they wanted, within it.
For a lot of these kids, it was the first time they were given permission to ‘break the rules’, and actually be celebrated for being unconventional.
A big part of their success came from the confidence they developed after learning what I refer to as modern life skills; mindsets, mental models, and a behind the peek curtain of how the world really works.
Society loves to complain that schools aren’t teaching these skills, and that curriculum is slow to adapt. But it usually stops at criticism.
Not anymore.
I have rejoined myBlueprint as Director of Special Projects to take action and to do something about it.
myBlueprint has thousands of school & district partners across Canada, and helps about 1.5 million students create a plan for life after high school.
Educators want students to succeed beyond their classroom. We all do. But it literally takes a village, more so today than ever before.
That’s where a large part of my focus will be concentrated.
I am pumped to start experimenting with some of these special projects to help support our partners in preparing their students to feel confident, and excited to take on the challenges that lie ahead of them.
ps. part of doing that is helping bring the real world into the classroom, so if you’re at a company who wants to contribute to this mission, learn about one of the first experiments we’re going to run, and want to help future-proof the next generation, my DMs are open.
Let’s get it 💪
A lot of people like to talk about their desire to do work that makes an impact.
But with most people, that's where it stops.
This post is for those who take action.
The Knowledge Society (TKS) is growing.
Joining TKS as a Program Director means getting the opportunity to work with really smart, experienced, creative, and self-aware people to train the next generation of talent through coaching and project-based learning.
With prior experience at top companies including McKinsey, J&J, MIT, and SpaceX, to name a few, our Directors coach from their first-hand experience working in the industry. We train mindsets, mental models, and cutting-edge technology to equip young people with the right skills to solve the problems of tomorrow.
