Woke up early to fulfill my commitment to the United States Air Force Academy and arrived at 8AM in Horsham, PA this morning to commemorate my Admissions Liaison Officer mentee, Liam McKee, who defied all odds by applying to the Academy as an Enlisted Officer this year and getting accepted. There were over 10,000 applicants, and only 1,300 applicants were accepted. An appointment to the United States Air Force Academy is the equivalent of a 4-Year Full Ride scholarship to a top tier American University. The students who make it in deserve to represent our country. They are the absolute best of us.
This year as a mentor was bittersweet as three (3) of my mentees were accepted to the Academy; however, one was ultimately rejected for medical reasons and the other chose the University of Virginia as his college of choice instead. It was hard to accept either of those results from students I had worked so hard with throughout the year. However, with regard to Liam, it was meant to be. I was randomly assigned to him as a mentor, but I learned by accident months later that he is the son of a very good friend of mine who is also a Masonic Brother. The odds of that happening are astronomical... which is why I can only deem such odds to clearly have been the work of Providence.
My best wishes and hopes go to Liam, as well as all the other Academy appointees this year. These future cadets are the best that America has to offer...the point of the American spear.
I was riding on fumes driving to Horsham this morning, but nothing, literally nothing, energizes me more than someone who loves this country. #USAFA #AirForceAcademy #USA #Freemasonry
