Day 1 Alert! Today I join Metropolis Technologies (http://www.metropolis.io) as Chief Product & Experience Officer. Metropolis operates next-gen parking facilities using computer vision and machine learning. There’s much more to our vision than just parking - but parking is a worthy, difficult, and interesting problem that’s overdue to solve so let’s start there. Parking is often the first and last physical touchpoint when we move around cities. Going to the grocery store? Parking bookends your trip. Going to a concert? Parking. In a hurry to get to work? PARKING. Everyone has a parking story. Most of them are awful, wasteful, and inconvenient at best. This is a real problem, but wrangling technology to create better real-world experiences is what I’ve always done, and there’s a big opportunity to solve this at scale. Why? How? By deploying computer vision and machine learning tech in parking garages to create a checkout-free, drive-in, drive-out experience. No fumbling with cash. No dislocating your shoulder trying to reach the ticket machine (assuming you can find your ticket). No messing around with credit cards. Just drive in, park, and then drive right out. Over 3 million people (1%+ of all licensed drivers in the US) are already using Metropolis, and I’m excited to work alongside Alexander Israel and the other driven and humble co-founders to build the team and tech that will accelerate our growth.
