FOR JEWISH ALLIES Just last week, I celebrated the Jewish holiday in Israel with my family. During that time, we ran into bomb shelters as rockets flew overhead. This is the harsh reality many in the region face daily due to Hamas. While we are now back in America, our thoughts and concerns remain with the rest of my immediate and extended family, friends, and all innocent people in the region.
As many Jewish people will share, we are not OK. The ongoing situation in Israel has shaken us and is also affecting us in America. While I believe in the power of prayer and positive thoughts, there are tangible ways to support our Jewish colleagues within the workplace.
🤝 CONNECT AND UNDERSTAND: Reach out to your Jewish colleagues (regardless of seniority) to let them know you're thinking of them, and offer your support. It has meant so much to me personally for those who reached out and continue to check in. A simple message of solidarity can mean the world to someone going through a tough time. To support your Jewish colleagues, ask questions to foster open and empathetic conversations. Try something like "Do you have friends or family living in Israel and how are they coping with the current situation?" or "Tell me about a trip you took to Israel. What was the most memorable experience you had?".
🌟 DONATE TO CHARITIES MAKING AN IMPACT: Don’t wait to be solicited for charity, pick one to show your Jewish colleague you care, every little bit counts. Some suggestions 1/ United Hatzalah: Muslim, Christian and Jewish volunteers provides crucial medical assistance to all in Israel, regardless of their background. 2/ Magen David Adom: Israel's Red Cross, providing emergency medical services and essential blood donations during crises. 3/ Friends of the IDF (FIDF): Ensuring the well-being, education, and safety of Israel Defense Forces personnel.
📚 EDUCATE YOURSELF: Learn about the history and complexities of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Understanding the background can foster more meaningful conversations and empathy.
