Highlights
Who is a teacher or coach that changed your trajectory in life?
Mine was Coach Bill Eaton, who saw potential in a 15 year-old sophomore and convinced me to switch from ice hockey to football, wrestling and track & field.
And to my (and maybe Coach E’s) surprise, it was the discus and hammer throw where I had the most success, helping me secure an athletic scholarship to college.
But most importantly, he taught me the value of physical and mental courage. He helped me understand how sports can be a vehicle to develop skills in leadership and teamwork, as well as self-confidence. These are all things I continue to explore and improve upon some 35 years later.
While Coach passed some years ago, I’d like to take time this week to thank him - his coaching and mentorship made a difference in my life.
