Strategic Partnerships @ CalMatters

Dan Hu is a Strategic Partnerships Consultant at CalMatters, a role he has held since March 2024.1 He is responsible for increasing CalMatters' collaboration with partner organizations across California and is a founding member of the first Impact team in news.1

Prior to his current position, Dan was the executive director of The Yappie, a nonprofit publication focused on AAPI political news, from April 2022 to July 2023.1 He has also served on the boards of LION Publishers and the Glen Nelson Center at American Public Media Group.1

Dan's experience includes:

  • Knight Lab Fellow at Northwestern University Medill School (April-June 2023)
  • RevLab Fellow at The Texas Tribune (September-December 2022)
  • Co-President of Northwestern University's entrepreneurship student group EPIC (April 2021-June 2022)

As of February 2025, Dan is leading CalMatters' 2024 VotingMatters series, which includes more than 30 events around California to educate voters through in-person conversations and CalMatters' Voter Guide.2
