Highlights
While screening a plants health is now a standard part of industry, the history of pathogen transmission has dramatically shaped the commercial cannabis genetics landscape. While it has since become standard practice for commercial operators, we still see many legendary cannabis strains lost to disease and sickness. Finding validated copies, cleaning them, and keeping them safe has become an increasingly important part of our work.
“The trap scene is where hop latent initially thrived and was unknowingly proliferated with some legendary strains for years,” Adler-Golden told High Times. “Because infected plants can be asymptomatic, the lack of information on the viroid combined with minimal screening practices led to widespread contamination among truly elite cuts.”
