Today was my last day at HBO Max. Simply put, the past few years have been an absolute dream. I could not have drawn up a more rewarding yet challenging experience if I tried. Helping to build to HBO Max to what it is today will always be a career highlight - we made history. I am so proud of what we were able to accomplish, what we learned and what we we've been able to share with the world. I had the opportunity to work with some of the smartest, most thoughtful, passionate and relentless people around and I’ll be forever grateful to have been part of that magic.

I’m off to a new exciting adventure but I’ll be watching and cheering from the sidelines.

While the past few weeks have been pretty emotional, it was also a really good opportunity to take a step back and reflect on lessons I’ve learned:

  1. Relationships are truly the single most important thing, especially at a big company. Developing strong relationships with key partners and everything that comes with that development is the key to your success. I am incredibly lucky to have developed lifelong friendships with some brilliant people, while building something amazing together.

  2. There is no single cookie cutter Product Manager. PMs come in all shapes, sizes and colors. They wear very different hats and often times multiple. The goal of an organization should be to balance specific skill sets to create a well oiled machine where people feed and thrive off each other.

  3. A strong Product Manager does not have to have an Engineering or CS background but should be able to understand at a high level the technical complexity of features. Work with your dev partners to understand those and make proper trade offs. A cool feature with a ton of tech debt is not a great feature.

  4. Product Management is leading with influence and zero authority. Spend real time to understand what motivates people, in different parts of the organization. Use data, both quantitative and qualitative, tap into other biases, beliefs, and triggers; learn to influence people to get things done and move the organization forward.

  5. Use your own product! Use it everyday, get a feel for what's good and what's not so good. Know it like the back of your hand.
