Just back from attending the first psychedelics conference in Israel. Against all odds, the incredible organizers Bernard Lerer and Keren Tzarfaty practically willed this important event to happen. Despite the heaviness of the situation in the Middle East and the news unfolding every day we were there, so many attendees felt glimmers of hope throughout the week. And, as Eric Vermetten shared with us, “With hope comes action”.

I met an impressive group of researchers, academics, scientists, and mental health professionals who are diving into the psychedelic field - from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem , Weizmann Institute of Science and more. A significant part of the conference covered the “Healing Oct 7th”, an initiative by  MAPS-Israel to treat survivors of the Oct 7th massacres with MDMA-assisted therapy. I have no doubt that Israel will play a significant role with regard to researching  &  treating PTSD. I was fortunate to be able to spend time with so many open-hearted people applying their talents to Tikkun Olam, and they are committed to helping people both in and outside of Israel. Getting away from identity politics and doomscrolling, while focusing on solutions, was refreshing. Some highlights included a thoughtful keynote by Rachel Yehuda and inspiring talks by Leor Roseman. His study, which brought Jews and Arabs together years ago in an Ayahuasca ceremony, resulted in some of those participants having strong friendships and bonds today. We were lucky they joined us, thanks for showing us what is possible.

If you are interested in learning more about the Healing Oct7th project, please reach out. Praying for peace for EVERYONE in the region, and the safe return of the hostages.

PS - And no, I'm not Simeon Schnapper, despite the sign in front of me, but grateful to join him, Ken Belotsky, Leonard Lerer and Bernard Lerer for a panel discussing investment landscape. Kaitlin Roberson, Pinni Baumol, David Drapkin LCSW, Rick Doblin, David Roberson, Signi Goldman M.D.
