Our new report looks at how tech companies are complying with a new California law aimed at making platforms more transparent in terms of how they address hate and extremism. The law, AB587, is one that ADL led a broad coalition to help get passed.

We found that Discord, LinkedIn, Reddit, and Roblox committed to addressing hate and appear to have made efforts to publish detailed, informative reports. Notably Roblox produced its first transparency report as part of complying with this law.

We analyzed nine platforms’ mandated reports from January and April 2024. Though reporting has already improved from January to April, several major platforms avoided complying fully with either the letter or the spirit of the law.
