Highlights
InfiniGrow’s competitors helped educate the market on Attribution a lot and some became well known brands here on LinkedIn. Here’s why that’s actually good for us.
In 2022, we froze all our marketing & sales efforts.
Just before the economy went down, we made a couple of tough decisions that left us with very limited resources and major product challenges.
The bet we made that eventually paid off was to invest all of those resources into the product. On the outside, we were pretty quiet. On the inside, we worked hard on perfecting the product and dealing with existing customers.
In these 2 years, a major narrative shift in B2B marketing happened.
B2B finally started talking about the outdated Attribution practices that just don’t match the realities of the complex buyer journeys.
Among others, our competitors contributed a lot to this. They put on a great marketing show and did a really great job in educating the market… While we were silent.
This presented both a challenge and an opportunity for us.
CHALLENGE
We have a lot to do to catch up on the marketing front. It’s especially painful when we see competitors launching basic features we’ve had for years but didn’t market it properly.
A good reminder of what happens when you cut marketing investments.
OPPORTUNITY
- Market is more educated and there’s more buy-in
- Demand is growing for products within the category
- We’re winning more deals in the later stages of the buyer journey
Above all else, this is an opportunity because for us, just like most B2B companies, real competition isn’t other software vendors… It's STATUS QUO.
Most prospects I talk to are either trying to build it in-house, or still fighting with their manual processes, Salesforce/Hubspot reporting and spreadsheets or outdated attribution products that are there just to check the box.
That’s why educating the market to fight against this status quo is the name of the game. And so, if your competition is contributing to that, and you play it right, it can amplify everything you do.
This is not just about us. This quest goes way beyond our company goals. It’s what B2B marketing needs.
We need to get our data chaos in order, stop shooting in the dark and finally start making data-driven GTM investment decisions, with confidence.
Any push in that direction is good for the B2B marketing realm.
The bad news? B2B GTM has never been less effective. The good news? This will force us to act and finally fix the real problem.
In B2B, Marketing (and entire GTM) decision-making is like shooting in the dark.
Long buyer journeys mean go-to-market investments take time to yield results, and when your data fails to connect the two, that’s just too complex to navigate.
And data IS failing us, as in most B2B orgs it is chaotic.
It’s messy, fragmented, unstructured. Nobody trusts it.
To deal with this, the go-to solution for most B2Bs has been to oversimplify and invest in things that are easy to see and measure despite the data chaos.
Sales over marketing. Lead-gen over demand-gen. Single-touch Attribution.
This kinda worked while the economy was good and there was plenty of VC money to burn through, but that’s not the case anymore.
It may sound counter-intuitive, but that shitstorm became THE BIGGEST OPPORTUNITY B2B GTM has seen in the last 10 years.
Now we have both the stick and the carrot forcing us to ACT NOW:
🏏 Stick: Efficient GTM is now table stakes, you just don’t have a choice anymore 🥕 Carrot: The AI revolution. Everyone wants to leverage it for their gains, sooner the better
The first step in accomplishing both is getting your data right. Bad data is B2B’s greatest enemy and the main root cause for so many of the wrong decisions we’re making. It’s also a prerequisite to leverage AI. It’s simple - garbage in, garbage out.
↳ Get your data in order ↳ Produce proper insights ↳ Make the right GTM decisions
This is the B2B GTM flywheel you should double down on. Starting with bringing order to your data chaos.
