A VC we met yesterday asked what the market is like for searches. We have a ton of this type of data - by function, by month, by geography, year over year trends. Variants of "how busy is the search market" are the most common questions I field. We actually try to share this data often but need to find frictionless ways to get it out into the world. I think we have the best data on the tech recruiting market.
So here's a test. This is what our internal dashboard looks like on # of searches, and what we share out to a bunch of our partner investment firms. It's indexed to 100 which was our baseline in Q4 2019, these aren't actual count numbers, but it shows the same trend lines. What to make of it? Basically the Covid years were crazy (also the lowest number of days it took to close a search by about 25%). Searches dropped off quickly in 2022 when the rest of the venture and growth stage tech market took a hit. But the recovery started (in retrospect) somewhere around Q1 of 2023, and it's been a steady increase since. Last quarter was back to 2022 levels.
