Highlights
I, like many Jews and people around the world, have found it difficult today to do anything other than watch the news, follow social media updates and check in with friends, family and contacts in Israel. I’m horrified, sad, angry and confused.
The last 36 hours has seen unprecedented terror and atrocities against innocent Israelis including babies, children, men, women and the elderly. Disgraceful acts of terror by terrorists whose only intent is to destroy life. Regardless of race, religion, gender we are humans and should value life. Regardless of your opinions on the Israeli / Palestinian situation we should recognise the despicable acts of these despicable terrorists and not find excuses for these inexcusable actions.
This afternoon I struggled through my 5 year old daughters Hebrew homework with her. I told her this morning that bad people were doing bad things in Israel and she sensitively asked if the people we know there are ok. I have hugged her and my son more often and harder than ever before, realising how fortunate I am to have them and that they are safe. Seeing some of the atrocities has sickened me in ways nothing else ever has, in particular of an innocent Israeli whose wife and two daughters were kidnapped. His children are the same age as mine. He doesn’t know where they are or if he will ever see them again. I cannot imagine his pain and this is the same for the entire nation of Israel and Jews around the world.
I’m not really sure what to do or say but I do know
- we should reach out to anyone we know who has been affected directly or indirectly
- we should value life every day
- we should value our friends and family and cherish those relationships
- we should show love and support and do anything we can to help the innocent people suffering greatly
- and we should learn what we can to prevent this from happening in Israel or anywhere else in the world
There will be further loss of life on both sides. Innocent people will die. This is a direct result of the acts of terrorists.
I pray for the safe return of those taken hostage. I pray for this war to take as few lives as possible. And I pray the world wakes up and starts to work to find a solution.
Am Yisrael Chai.
